Hi, this is my very first try at writing a tutorial so please be patient with me. I have tried to make it as easy as I can to follow, by putting pictures of almost each step and because of this there are many pages.  I hope this helps in case my words are not clear.

This tutorial is written in and for PSP Version 7.04 and assumes you have a working knowledge of PSP. I am sure this can easily be done in other versions with path modifications.

For this tutorial you will need:
          30 day trial

It uses selections.  You may download the zip- file here.
I have enclosed a pattern swatch. Open it your PSP program.
Save the selections to your selections folder in PSP.

If you are not sure how to do this, you can learn here

If you need a little refresher course to learn how to work with selections, this is the place to go!

Ok, here we go. Remember, My color selections are just guides. If you want to use other colors or patterns, by all means do! If not the first time, do it again and use something different the second time.

        First let me say
        SAVE OFTEN!!
Most of all.. have fun and if you have problems, feel free to email me.

After your "first save" as a .psp file, you can use ctrl-s often to resave.
I like to save on each layer at least.   I find that easier to remember to do. :o) [And I do not merge layers as I go so I can go back and change if I want later.]

open new image 650x850 transparent 16.7 million colors (24bit)

(I use a large image and work at [1.2] so you can go to full size to do detail if you like, then when its done you can always reduce.)
        Save as mermaid.psp

Add new raster layer - name it Tail
( I always keep my first layer blank and rename it background at this point)

        Set colors:
        forecolor=#008000
        background color=#00C000

        Selections/load from disk/tail.sel

open your paintbrush tool/ use these settings:

        fill with foreground color.

        Deselect

With MagicWand - tool hold down shift key and click on each open space until you have marching ants in each one.

Change to background color and use paintbrush to fill.

(If you see you have missed a spot, just click on magic wand again with shift and click on the missing space then back to paintbrush and fill)

        Deselect

Click magic wand on image anywhere outside tail then selections/invert
        Add selections/float - Add effects/3d/cutout

        Add effects/textures/mosaic glass

        Deselect
